As this week wore on and I ticked more things off the to-do list (travel clinic telehealth visit, trip to the bank, picking up prescriptions, confirming the cat sitter) as well as a snow-free forecast that is a relief, a kinder sense of calm started to settle over me. I’m sleeping better with less 3 am anxiety-driven brain on the hamster wheel. Maybe I can relax and wrap up what I have left to do this weekend without losing my sanity.
I’m renting a second camera body for this trip. I found last year I wasn’t comfortable swapping lenses out in the dusty air of the savannah so I stuck with the 100-400 all the time, which meant close wildlife and landscapes weren’t a possibility. This year with the second body I’ll keep the 100-400 on one and the 18-150 on other. We’ll see how that works out. I just have to pick up the second body tomorrow and configure it to my liking. That’s a good Saturday project.
Somehow I cannot believe I’m at this point, about to shut the work laptop down for 17 days! The time since booking this safari in April has both flown by and crept like a snail.
And while I say “this is it” for safari, and I tell myself I need to start seeing the rest of the world again, there’s that Botswana trip I feel percolating in the not-so-quiet recesses of my mind. I’m pushing that off until I’ve been back from this one and have at least gone through my photos once!
